I'll get one of the CI-V (whatever that is!) cables and be good to go. I'm gradually understanding all the nuances of this. This is the first HF radio I've had with no tubes, no pi-network! This radio is complicated enough for many of us OTs, who seem to be bumping into the "old dog, new tricks" conundrum. It would not be the choice of a serious contester, or aggressive DX'er. I guess there is, or has been, a market for some hams who are content with the size and relative simplicity of this little radio, 100 watts, DC to daylight, no bigger than the books we used to tote around before Kindles.

If you need specific help on how to set up the IC-706 MkIIG with HRD, please contact me off the forum at my call at arrl dot net. In other words, it makes no difference if you use HRD or DX Suite, et al. Yes, the feature list is limited, but that is a product of the number of commands in the IC-706 MkIIG's internal software from Icom and not the rig control program. I do use a IC-706 MkIIG with HRD and it works very well. There are many available on eBay and from Ham Radio vendors (like HRO or AES).
You would need a CT-17 or similar interface from the computer to the CI-V port on the rear of the IC-706MkIIG. It only provides sound card interfacing for digital modes and PTT Line Keying. A Rigblaster Plus does not provide the CI-V Computer to Rig connection necessary for HRD or any Rig Control program. It's important to understand there needs to be 1 connection to the IC-706MkIIG for Rig control and a 2nd if you wish to do digital modes.
